Texture testing

For this test I cloned the leather from the box on Photoshop onto the UV snapshot. Its works quite well baring in mind the UV map isn't connected well for this perspective view:

Adding glass to the watch

Glass texturing

There is a special rendering material on Maya that gives a very realistic glass texture to the model. I took my bottle and used an online tutorial to get all the attributes correct to apply the material to the model:

Pocket Watch

I went online to find my final object to model as i wanted something a little more interesting than a bottle or a box. This pocket watch I found on a online store called Sierra Toy Soldier company was just ideal, and this image came with a front and side view for me to use in the net:

Locked box and bottle UV mapping

So far the uv mapping for the box appears to be going well. The lock itself is definitely the most complex uv map. The bottle on the other hand doesn't work. I tried using the default cylindrical mapping, but there appears to be one really distorted part on both cylinders in the model. However, the bottle is made of glass which means hopefully I wont have to use a 2D texture:

Locked box render

Locked box modelling

The box side of this model was easy, but the lock was a lot more challenging. The model overall required a lot of extra edges (codename: polySplitRing). This is because the box is actually slightly curved on the edges:

Locked Box net

The leather box with a lock (for sake of argument I call 'locked box') was the second item I chose the render in maya although I took a different turn with the net. Instead of drawing over the original pictures I decided to resize the original pictures a just leave it like that. This is less accurate than my drawing method but i keep all the detail:

Before I could model the object with maya i had to make sure all the pictures had the correct dimensions. All the lengths of the canvas's had to match up depending on what part of the bottle they were:
